ERIE Baldwin S12 #617
Built by Baldwin in 2/1951 as the first of twelve S12's, it served as a yard switcher at Salamanca, NY well. On the merger of Erie & DLW, it became EL 617. Utilizing a turbocharged 6-cylinder version of the powerful 606A diesel prime mover, S12s were known for their "lugging" power, despite being temperamental. No photographer was listed for the photo.
