Built in 1919 by GE, this unique bipolar unit and its 4 sisters served the Milwaukee Road in the Mountain division faithfully for 35 years hauling long trains both passenger and freight at speeds up to 70 MPH. A poorly done 1953 rebuild by the MILW shops doomed these units, finally being retired in 1958-60 and scrapped in 1962. |
