Interesting story behind this New Haven Mack FCD railbus. It was the brainchild of new President Frederick C. Dumaine, Jr (hence the FCD in the name) who decided to have ten of these railbuses built for use on small branch lines. They were 49 seat, 170 hp diesel-electric with traction motors on each of their 4 acles. Dumaine was ousted in a proxy fight and the new President, Patrick McGinnis, had no interest in these. Railbus #12 was the only one that ever saw revenue business - 2 years between Worcester & Providence - before all were sold off. An unknown photographer caught #12 at Worcester, MA. Date is approximate. |
