LIRR Bar Car #2082, "Asharoken" - Long Island RR  Contributor's Pick!
Caught wearing the Long Island RR colors, this car has a long and varied history. Originally built by Budd Co in 1949 for the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western as their #790, a slab-sided, tavern/lounge/observation car, it moved into the EL camp on the merger. In July of 1970, the Long Island RR purchased it and numbered LI 2082 Asharoken. The ownership was transferred from LIRR to Metro North in August of 1981. It served as a commuter bar car on the Hudson Line trains between Poughkeepsie and New York. Eventually the car was rebuilt as a track inspection-business car for Metro North Commuter RR where I believe it remains today.
