This is a consolidation of several separate Bangor & Aroostook albums posted earlier. The photos are mostly original b&w scans, some with adjustments and refinements to bring out details. The photographer, date and location are identified when known. Approximate dates and locations have been given to those without the information.

BAR 4-6-0 #68 Boiler Explosion
Description:
Nice older photo of the remains of BAR #68 after a boiler explosion some time in 1895. Specs - D-1 class, 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 20x26" cylinders, engine weight of 144,500 lb, tractive effort of 25,257 lb. Since this data base will not accept dates before 1900, it has been arbitrarily listed as 1/1/1900 although the correct date for the photo is 2/9/1895. The photo is from the Ray F. Higgins collection

BAR Snow Plow #6
Description:
Fascinating older photo dated 2/8/1895 printed on Kodak Velox paper of the Bangor & Aroostook snow plow #6. Can't quite make out the road numbers of the steam locomotives standing behind the plow. No photographer listed. Since this data base won't accept dates beyond 1900, it has been arbitrarily listed as 1/1/1900.

Title:
BAR 4-4-0 #206 - Bangor & Aroostook RR
Description:
Here is an excellent example of a Manchester Locomotive Works built in November, 1893 with the original number 16. This was a BAR class H-2 with tall 69" drivers. It developed a modest 150 psi boiler pressure for its small 16"x24" cylinders. The engine weight was a petite 93,600 lb and it could apply a tractive effort of 11.353 lb. The locomotive was rebuilt by the BAR shops in 1920 and it worked unitl being sold in 1940. The date is approximate and location is listed as Derby (formerly Milo Junction). C.E. Fisher gets the photo credit.

Built by Alco-Manchester in 1905, this plucky switcher lasted until being scrapped in 1937. Note the relaxed pose of the engineer in his window. No photographer, location or date listed for the photo.

Description:
This sharp looking 4-6-2 Pacific was one of only 5 built by Alco-Schenectady in 1927, serial #67425, for the Bangor & Aroostook. The loco served well until being scrapped in December of 1953. Specs on the 5 locos in the class - 69" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 21x28" cylinders, engine weight of 237,000 lb, tractive effort of 31,944 lb. No date or location was given so approximates were used.From the collection of Henry O. Preble

BAR 2-8-0 #181 - Bangor & Aroostook
Description:
Although not marked, this appears to be an original photo taken shortly after the 1914 Alco-Schenectady 2-8-0 Consolidation was built. The class G locos built between 1914-1916 were all superheated in 1918 by the BAR shops. Specs after superheating - 57" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 23x30" cylinders, engine weight of 222,000 lb, tractive effort of 44,500 lb. After over 40 years of service, all 16 class G locos was retired between 1947-51. Unknown photographer and no location listed.

BAR 0-8-0 #336 - Bangor & Aroostook
Description:
Beefy 0-8-0 switcher built by Alco in 1922 originally for the Boston & Maine as their #623. The loco was purchased in February of 1946 and scrapped after only 3 years of service in June of 1949. Unknown date, location or photographer. The water tower in back appears similar to North Maine Junctiion near Hermon, ME. The photo paper was Velox which dates it in the 1940-50's range.

Crisp older photo of the sharp looking 1901 Manchester Locomotive Works 4-6-0 built for the Bangor & Aroostook as their #55. This construction was about the time that Manchester merged into the ALCO group. Description:
Caught by the roundhouse and turntable at North Maine Juntion in Heermon, ME, this mighty 4-8-2 Mountain type loco was built by Alco-Schenectady in October of 1929 (serial #68525). These relatively small Mountain type locos with small drivers were for low-speed freight hauling. The loco lasted in service until being scrapped in June of 1950. The entire M class of 10 was retired between 1950-53 with none preserved. Specs - class M, 62" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 22.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 317,490 lb, tractive effort of 49,972 lb. Photo was obtained from the Henry O. Preble collection.

Description:
Here is another 1929 Alco-Schenectady built 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotive sitting at the edge of the turntable at the North Main Juntion yard near Hermon, ME. These relatively small Mountain type locos with small drivers were for low-speed freight hauling. Like many in its class, this loco met up with the scrapper's torch in June of 1950. Specs - class M, 62" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 22.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 317,490 lb, tractive effort of 49,972 lb.. Exact date of this photo is unknown. The photo came from the Henry O. Preble collection.

Although the photo is damaged near the pilot and front, it still shows an impressive 1935 Alco-Schenectady built small 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotive used by Bangoor & Aroostook. These relatively small Mountain type locos with small drivers were for low-speed freight hauling. The entire M class of 10 was retired between 1950-53 with BAR #108 being one of the last to meet up with the scrapper's torch in January of 1953. Specs - class M, 62" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 22.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 317,490 lb, tractive effort of 49,972 lb. Date and location are unknown but it very well may be at the North Maine Junction yard near Hermon, ME as most 4-8-2's were serviced there. Unknown photographer.
