| Description: |
Long before an EMD E8A loco wore the #1442, this 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam locomotive had the nonor. This small 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam locomotive was built by Baldwin in March of 1910 as B&O #1442. The original drivers were massive 80" ones but during a rebuilt in March of 1918, they were reduced to 74" drivers. After nearly 32 years of service, the loco was retired in May of 1942 and presumedly scrapped. Rebuilt specs - 74" drivers, 205 psi boiler presure, 22x26" cylinders, engine wt of 212,260 lb and tractive effort of 29,600 lb. This is a C.C. Grayson photo. BO 4-4-2 #1484 - Baltimore & Ohio |
| Description: |
Nice action shot with a crew member posing in front of Baltimore & Ohio 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam locomotive #1484. This loco was built by Alco-Schenectady in April of 1904 originally as Buffalo & Susquehanna 4-4-2 #174. In 1907, it was renumbered B&S #274. When the B&S was absorbed into the Baltimore & Ohio system in 1932 it was renumbered again to B&O #1484. The loco lasted until beomg scrapped at the Mt Clare yards in 1946. Specs - 69" drivers, 195 psi boiler pressure, 19x26" cylinders, engine wt of 150,800 and modest tractive effort of 22,600 lb. This is a Max Miller photo. |
