A Hot Metal Bottle Train |
Description: |
The first time I saw a hot metal bottle train I was hooked. This is now one of the rarest forms of railroading as most hot metal movements are contained within a steel plant now. The exception is this ArcelorMital bottle train that makes regular runs from the ArcelorMital plant in East Chicago, IN, to their finishing plant in Riverdale, IL, a rough distance of 30 miles mostly on IHB trackage. The bulbous shapes of the cars are an easy way to spot this rare train. |

NS 7135 |
Description: |
The NS loco heading up the hot metal bottle train crawls slowly while going with a load of hot steel but on the empty return, the train tends to move much faster. And yes, I know there is a MAJOR weight difference that would account for the difference is speeds between loaded and empty trains. |
