EL E8A #814 - Erie Lackawanna |
Description: |
Nice shot from an original color negative by an unknown photographer of 1951 EMD built Erie Lackawanna (nee-DLW) taken at an unidentified location. With the watchman's tower in the far, far right background, could this be Marion, Ohio? I have also posted earlier a photo of #814 on its "death march" through Fort Wayne, IN, in May of 1977. Date and location are approximate. |

EL E8A #814 - "Death March" |
Description: |
Still a good looking unit but from the handwritten note painted near the rear, it's on its final journey to the torches. The note states "Electromotive Divi, Gen Motors, c/o Pielet Bros, McCook, IL, 25 mph." Pielet Bros. of McCook, IL was right next to EMD and they scrapped many trade-ins to EMD. In 1977, they were in charge of scrapping a lot of the EL E-units. George Cheatwood slide |
