Description:  Fairly nice roster shot of Denver & Rio Grande Western 2-8-2ng #318 while in an unidentified yard. History - Built by Baldwin in March 1896 as Florence & Cripple Creek #8 (c/n 14769) and named "Goldfield". Afteer the F&CC closed, the loco was sold to D&RG and became their #428 (class 72) in 1917. The loco was renumbered DRGW #318 in 1924 (reclassified as C-18). After retirement, the loco was donated to Colorado RR Museum in 1954. No exact date, location or photographer was given but it appears that the slide was taken in early 1950's.

Description:  D&RGW No. 318 is a C-18 class 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type narrow gauge steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, PA in January 1896 for the Florence and Cripple Creek Railroad, F&CC 2-8-0ng #428, which would later sell it off to the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG), later known as the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW). In 1954, Cornelius W. Hauck acquired the locomotive and put it on public display with his Narrow Gauge Museum in Alamosa, CO. In 1958, the museum moved to its present site in Golden, CO and 318 operated under steam on the museum grounds from 1978 until 1982. Rail fan Jim Lockart photographed the senior member of the Colorado RR Museum when he visitied in 1980.
