Beautiful color photo of the streamlined Canadian National 4-8-4 Confederation type steam loco #6404. Built in July of 1936 by the Montreal Locomotive Works, it was the epitome of stylish design in steam and headed up the crack CN varnish for many years. Specs - serial #68719, class U-4-a, 77" drivers, impressive 275 psi boiler pressure, 24x30" cylinders, engine weight of 280,280 lb, tractive effort of 52,457 lb. The loco was scrapped in April of 1960. The photo is from the Dave Shaw collection. |
