CNJ 4-4-2 592 "Atlantic Camelback" - Central Railroad of New Jersey
Title:  CNJ 4-4-2 592 "Atlantic Camelback" - Central Railroad of New Jersey
Description:  With a larger firebox than current locomotives to burn anthracite coal, the engineer's cab was forced to sit on the side of the boiler. Besides being called a "camelback" the New Jersey railroad also labeled them "Mother Hubbard" while B&O called them "Snapper". Unbelievably fast, they could reach speeds of 90 MPH! Wish Amtrak would look into them!!!!

Central Rail Road of New Jersey 4-4-2 #593
Title:  Central Rail Road of New Jersey 4-4-2 #593
Description:  Camelback locomotives always look toy-like in some way - must be the early Lionel steeple cab models influence. This 1902 Alco-Brooks unit was a P-6s class camelback. George E. Votava photo gets the photo credit.
