Standing before the ash pan is the 1927 Alco-Schenectady built 4-8-2 "Mountain" type locomotive built for the Canadian National parent company and leased to the Central Vermont. Specs - class U-1-a, 73" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 326,100 lb, tractive effort of 46,283 lb. The class was retired in the late 1950's. This powerful and long 4-8-2 Mountain type steam locomotive was built by Alco-Schenectady in May of 1927 as Central Vermont #603. The loco was photographed while it sat in the Turcot Yard in Montreal. This is the original sepia colored scan of the photo. Specs - serial #67338, U-1a class, 73" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure,26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 325,000 lb, tractive effort of 44,000 lb.Later the boiler pressure was raised to 200 psi and the tractive force grew to 46,300 lb.
