Wearing a very patriot color scheme is Otter Tail Valley RR GP18 #181 sitting next to the former BN depot. Built by EMD in September of 1963 as NS GP18 #2, this loco has landed on seveeral rosters before and since being on the OTVR one. Currently it appears to be on the Burlington Junction Rwy roster. MNN GP #1463 - Minnesota Northern |
| Description: |
Minnesota Northern GP9 #1463 sits in front of a short line of locos at the Otter Tail Valley RR engine house in Fergus Falls. With it is sister line Otter Tail Valley GP18 #181 and Minnesota Northern GP9 #1483. Originally built by EMD as Nickel Plate GP9 #533, it was merged into the N&W roster as #2533. It was later sold sometime in the mid-1980's to Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern as their #1463. Finally it ended up on the Minnesota Northern line sometime in early 2000. Note the identical patriotic paint scheme used for both the Minnesota Northern and the Otter Tail Valley at this date. Eric Berg photo. |

Eric Berg found the cannibalized Otter Tail Valley GP18 #194 sitting half gutted in the Fergus Falls, MN yard. Originally built by EMD in October of 1963 for the shortline Norfolk Southern Railroad (not to be confused with the present NS congolmerate) as their #15, it was merged into the Southern Rwy roster in 1974. The loco was renamed SOU #194 and later sold to the Otter Tail Valley RR. To maintain its other GP18's on the OTVR roster, this loco was sacrificed. |
