UTR 4-4-0 #7 - Union Transportation RR |
Description: |
Interesting note on the back of this original photo states "Blt by Baldwin in 1919 from blueprints of their old #4 designed and built in 1897 and is identical to #4 which is now scrapped." Must have been a great design for them to build a copy of the original 21 years later! No photogrpaher was listed for this. |

VT 4-4-0 #11 - Virginia & Truckee |
Description: |
This loco, nicknames "The Reno", was built by Baldwin in May of 1872 and was the oldest loco on the Virginia & Truckee roster. The loco was purchased by MGM Studios in 1945 for use in movies. In 1970 while MGM was shedding properties and props, the loco was sold to the Old Tucson Studios where it was on display. Jim Lockart photographed it here on one of his trips out West. Since then the loco was purchased by the new V&T tourist line and was moved back to Virginia City, NV. This was the first time since 1938 that it appeared here. Inoperable, it is now a display at the Virginia City Depot with plans to restore it to operation. We can only hope! |

DTI 4-4-0 #16 - Detroit, Toledo & Ironton |
Description: |
Interesting side story for this little 4-4-0 American-style steam locomotive - built for the Midland Pennsylvania 1914 (only one ordered), this Eight-wheeler was repossessed by Baldwin and sold to the DT & I. That railroad used #16 on its Toledo-Detroit Railroad subsidiary hence several sources list it as a Toledo-Detroit locomotive only. In 1928 the DT & I donated #16 to Henry Ford's Edison Institute in Dearborn, where it remained on display for decades. In 1980, the Ford Museum traded #16 to the Illinois Railway Museum where it resides today. Photo from the Harold K. Vollrath collection. |

Not much information on this 1892 Baldiwn built locomotive although the date here is listed as 1900 due to the RRPA date limits.. This is an older copy of the builder's photo of this slick looking little loco. This could possibly be in the D8 class. |

RDG 4-4-0 #418 - Philadelphia & Reading RR |
Description: |
This is an example of an American-type locomotive built by Baldwin in 1914. It was a D11-s class loco with 68.5" drivers, developing 210 psi boiler pressure and delivering 15,059 lb of tractive force. Looks as if the loco is on a storage or scrap line with others of its class which were eventually scrapped between 1941-45. Date is approximate. Warren W. McCleary Jr photo. |

CIM 4-4-0 #502 - Chicago & Illinois Midland |
Description: |
According to George Drury (1993), this 1927 Baldwin built American-type locomotive was one of the last three Americans built for any railroad in North America. The loco was finally scrapped in 1953 after pulling the Springfield to Peoria passenger trains for nearly 26 years. Note the interesting diagonal logo plate on the boiler face. No photographer, date or location was given so approximates were used. |
