Built by the Rogers Locomotive Works of Paterson, NJ, in 1889, this 4-6-0 ten wheeler served the C&O for about 35 years before the class was scrapped in 1924. According to an early Railroad & Engineering Journal "noted that these were passenger Ten-wheelers intended for heavy grades. The "vestibule" train for which it was expressly designed had nine cars and was to be moved over the section at an average of 32 mph." Specs - F-9 class, 62" drivers, 170 psi boiler pressure, 20x24" cylinders, engine weight of 137,200 lb, tractive effort of 22,374 lb. No exact date other than circa 1900, no location and no photographer were given for the photo. |
