BPC 0-6-0 #1 - Bay Point & Clayton RR |
Description: |
A rare photo of the 1907 oil burning Baldwin locomotive built for the Bay Point & Clayton RR. A twin loco was also built but was labeled and numbered Cowell Portland Cement Co #2, the parent company of the Bay Point & Clayton RR. Originally the line was to run from Bay Point to Clayton, but after hearing about the railroad being built, the land owners jacked up their price so the railroad could only purchase enough land to run from Bay Point to Cowell instead of reaching Clayton. Engine specs - 50-inch drivers, 18 X 24-inch cylinders, weighed 108,000 pounds, and provided 25,000 pounds of tractive force.Photo credit goes to J.C. Hammond. |

BLW 0-6-0 #26 - Baldwin Locomotive Works |
Description: |
This little 0-6-0 switcher was built by Baldwin in March of 1929 originally as Jackson Iron & Steel 0-6-0 #3. After serving the JIS, it ended up as a shop switcher at the Baldwin Locomotive Works. Somehow, this little switcher ended up at the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, OH, where it was part of a trade deal with Steamtown USA of CN #1551 in 1986. The little switcher was restored to operational service for Steamtown tourist trains. In December of 1999, it was pulled from operation but returned in December of 2015 for the 2016 Railfest. During its overhaul, it was painted green. No photographer or date was given for the photo. |

CBQ 0-6-0 #562 - Chicago, Burlington & Quincy |
Description: |
Another fine example of a 1906 Baldwin built switcher, class G10. According to the Burlington Route Historical Society records, it was assigned to the St Joseph yard in 1935 and later in 1952 to the Galesburg yard. This photo appears to be between those two dates hence the arbitrary date used. In June of 1954, it met its end when it was sold for scrap. C.C. Grayson photo |

SP 0-6-0T 565 - Southern Pacific LA General Shops |
Description: |
The SP had a number of specialized steam switchers for moving locos around engine terminals and backshops. They were the 'shop switchers'; they were usually retired locomotives whose original usefulness had come to an end. This loco started out as a 1903 Baldwin 0-6-0 #1109 and was converted in 1939 to this streamlined 0-6-0T for use in the LA General Shops area. Interesting to see the orginal loco face sticking out of the streamlined sheeting. It served as a shop goat until being "vacated" in April of 1956 and finally scrapped in June of 1956. |

ATSF 0-6-0 #592 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe |
Description: |
The Santa Fe shops took an early Baldwin built 2-6-0 and converted it to this 0-6-0 switcher in 1926. Note the huge backup light on the tail of the tender. Must have lit up the entire yard! Date and location are approximations. No photographer was listed. |

Description: |
Although no date or location was given for this photo, it appears that this 0-6-0 switcher may be nearing its end as it looks like it's sitting in a deadline. The plucky little switcher started out as a 1901 Baldwin built 2-6-0 only to be rebuilt by the Santa Fe shops into its current 0-6-0 configuration. L.A. Stuckey photo |
