RSR GP40 #101 - Rochester & Southern RR |
Description: |
Here's another example of a boomer loco. Originally built by EMD in July of 1967 as NYC #3056, it merged into the Penn Central as their #3056 and then into the Conrail roster as CR #3056. Breaking out when Conrail was dissolved, it landed on the Rochester and Southern roster as RSR #101 seen here in its road grime orange and black livery. Sometime after this photo around 2008, it would be transferred to the Buffalo & Pittsburgh roster as #101. It would also get an upgrade to GP40-3 while there. Doug Boyd took this sharp color slide. |

The loco was merged into the UP roster as their #645, then sold to Missouri & Northern Arkansas as #645 but renumbered #4045. It appears it was then sold to the Kiamachi RR sometime between 2014-15. PC GP40 #3182 - Penn Central |
Description: |
This 1968 EMD built GP40 has several points of distinction. First, it bares the "colored worms" Penn Central logo, not many locos carried that. Most were just plain white. Second, on August 21, 1969, barely a year and a half after delivery, it got loose from the South Bay yard and ran across the I-93 Expressway in Boston, cutting deep grooves in the pavement and ending up blocking both directions. Quite a history. It did go on to the Conrail roster and eventually the New Jersey Transit. Date and location are approximate. Unknown photographer. |

CR SD40-2 #6377 |
Description: |
From his perch a little higher than CR #6377, CR conductor Ken Taylor took this closeup photo of a trio head into Conway yard. In the background is quite an assortment of CR locos - 5665, 6950, 7905 and even yard slug #1122. Not positive, but on the distant street, it appears to be a pair of Conrail. buses and a CR van parked in front of the brick CR headquarters. A lot of blue!!! |
