LSIX SW1 #01 - ADM Transportation |
Description: |
Caught outside the ADM grain elevator in Tipton, IN, is this SW1 unit, LSIX #01. Originally built as St Joseph Terminal, SJT #1, by EMD in February of 1950, this plugger is still working the rails more than 60 years later. On the nose is the label "Atom Powered" - not sure what that means but is an interesting feature on the loco. An unknown Hoosier rail fan caught this sight. |

AMTK SW1 #744 |
Description: |
Finally tracked down info on this relatively obscure little switcher. It was originally built for PRR as #9145. Absorbed by Penn Central as #8575, it then became first Amtrak #257 and finally as seen in this photo by Forrest Trittenbach as #744. After all of that merging and converging, it was finally retired July 1986 at Wilmington DE. Behind it sits another obscure Conrail unit #6867. Looks to be an RSD-12 but can't find it listed anywhere. |

Description: |
This SW1 switcher is showing some of its history in the keystone logo for the West Shore RR. Bulilt by EMD in November of 1950, it started out as PRR #9425. When the PRR and NYC merged, it was relabeled PC 8525 and then onto the Conrail roster later as their #8525. It finally ended up by 1980's as West Shore RR #8252 seen here. This is an H.E. Brouse color slide. |

PRR 9415 |
Description: |
This 1950 EMD built SW1 unit has been working hard the last year and picked up a good coating of road dust, probably from dragging leaking cement hoppers around. Looks like a crew member had to clean off the number below the engineer's window to be able to identify the unit! No location was given for this photo nor the name of the photographer. The date is approximate in 1951. |
