Another faceoff between diesel and steam involving an early Fairbanks-Morse switcher and a traditional Lima built Mikado. Unfortunately the Mikado lost - scrapped just 6 years later while the diesel lasted until 1973. Photographer C. W. Burns notes on back " A NKP 900 series 2-8-2 approaches from the yard. #954". |

NW H-12-44 #2151 - Norfolk & Western |
Description: |
Wearing a heavy coating of dirt, this former Nickel Plate Fairbanks Morse loco (nee #151) is still working the rails. An interesting note on the back of the photo by the unidentified photographer indicates that either this is on the AC&Y trackage or that it was eventually sold to the AC&Y. Does anyone know the disposition of this switcher? |

NYC FM H-12-44 #9115 - New York Central |
Description: |
Interesting Christmas card (circa early 1950's) displaying the shiny Fairbanks-Morse H-12-44 #9115 in an unidenitifed location. The 1200 hp FM unit was built in 1951 and was classified as des-17a. Then in 1966 it was reclassified as fs12m and renumbered 8304. A year later in 1967, it along with several others in the class were sold to GE, most likely as trade-ins for GE units. Can anyone identify this location? |
