The entire group of H16's weqe sold first to Striegel of Baltimore, MD and then resold to Chihuahua al Pacifico (#530) and finally retired sometime in the late 1970's-early 1980's. According to an April, 1963 issue of Railraod Magazine, this Fairbanks-Morse unit was built in 1951 for the Long Island RR and classified as a FGP-16msc member. The engine weight was 263,660 lb with a tractive effort of 36,000 lb. No information was given for the photo but with Tom Beckett's help (see comment below), I am setting the date to 1963 at Jamaica, NY. No photographer listed. |

| Description: |
Caught here is the Indianapolis yard, Fairbanks-Morse H-16-44 unit NYC 7010 shuffles freight cars on this day in 1964. Built in 1951, this 1600hp switcher had eight-cylinder opposed piston prime mover. The unit had Raymond Loewy styliing like sloping body lines and a noticeable protrusion in the long hood around the radiator shutters. Cab side window units included inoperable "half moon"-shaped panes, resulting in an oblong-shaped assembly.Unknown photogrpaher |
