DH RS3m #502 - Delaware & Hudson |
Description: |
Built by Alco in September of 1952 as DH RS3u 4106, this unit and its 7 other sisters were rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen between December of 1975 and march of 1976. Larger Alco prime movers were installed as well as raising the long hood 6 inches and moving the dynamic brake cooling box to behind the cab. The D&H later nicknamed these locos as "Club Foots" since they tended to slip under heavy loads. No photographer was listed for the photo. |

A lone Alco RS3m unit, CR #9932, sits in the Altoona yard. Having been painted in the CR blue, it indicates that this loco will serve the new roster rather than ending up like so many locos in the scrap lines. No exact date in 1979 was given and no photographer was listed. |
