Built by Rogers Locomotive & Machine Works in 1893, this plucky little 2-4-6 tank switcher serviced the Blue Island Yard - note the sign by its smoke stack. Eventually the class was scrapped between 1926-35 with the exception of a couple sold off earlier. Specs - class 242/1424, 56.5" drivers, modest 160 psi boiler pressure, 17x24" cylinders, engine wt 166,000 lb, modest tractive effort of 16,696 lb. This was an original photo by an unknown photographer. |

Here is another 2-4-6 tank switcher built by the Roger Locomotive and Machine Works in 1893. The plucky little tank switcher serviced the Addison Yard in Chicago, hence the name plaque under the smoke stack. This little guy was the last in his class to be scrapped shortly after this photo was taken, May/June of 1935.Specs - class 242/1424, 56.5" drivers, modest 160 psi boiler pressure, 17x24" cylinders, engine wt 166,000 lb, modest tractive effort of 16,696 lb.
