MON FM H-15-44 #46 - Monon RR |
Description: |
Seemingly opened up for all to see its workings is this Fairbanks Morse H-15-44 loco built in December of 1948 as MON #37 (serial #L1199). renumbered in February of 1949 and re-engineered by EMD in 1960. In May of 1970 before the merger into the L&N in 1972, this loco was sold to Industrial Maintenance Service and scrapped. No information accompanied the photo except a margin date stamd pf March, 1969, which seems appropriate as the loco looks like it was on a scrap line. |

MON BL2 #37 - Monon RR |
Description: |
Caught idle in a stored string of locos at an unidentified location, this EMD BL2 unit was built in May of 1949 for the Monon RR. This was definitely a transitional body style for EMD as they moved from the E & F car bodies to the multi-directional GP styling. According to the Monon Historical Society webpage, it was sold for scrap in 1969 to P-RSL. |

FMIX H15-44 #1503 Demonstrator |
Description: |
Built by Fairbanks-Morse in February of 1949, this unit served as their demonstrator until being sold to LIRR as their #1503. It was unique as it was a 1500 hp unit equipped with AAR Type B trucks (the type normally found under Alco units), body mounted handrails that were later changed, and a fuel tank skirting. It was originally classed as FS-15A but rebuilt by LIRR to 1600HP when they updated the prime mover and was re-classed to FGP-16sc, thus classed with the rest of the H16-44s. Date is approximate.
