Title:  SP Roseville Yard Explosion
Description:  Interesting aerial view of part of the Southern Pacific Roseville Yard damaged by an explosion on April 28, 1973. The press release from Pacific Press and UPI reads as follows "ROSEVILLE, CALF: Utter devastation remains of both this section of Southern Pacific yards here, and area beyond (top) where trees are stripped of all foliage. A string of railroad boxcars carrying nearly 1,00,000 lbs of bombs exploded one after another, forcing evacuation of 40,000 to 50,000 residents of the area from their homes and injuring dozens of persons." The yard is now Union Pacific's massive J.R. Davis Yard.

Description:  Interesting UPI photo of the test run for the new Washington D.C. Metro subway system. The press release reads "WASHIGNTON D.C. ; With Washington's first subway system scheduled to officicially begin operation on its first section March 27, one of the Metro trains makes a practice run on one of th elevated tracks a few blocks from the Capitol (background) recently." No exact date for this test run was given so the official first day date was used.

Description:  The Amtrak Union Station was caught by August I Staebler Jr in 1974, just a few years after Amtrak started up. Officially the station is known as Eddie Bernice Johnson Union Station (EBJ Union) as well as the Dallas Union Terminal. Before Amtrak, it once served nine different railroads.

Reading Black Rock Tunnel
Title:  Reading Black Rock Tunnel
Description:  The Black Rock Tunnel built by the former Reading & Philadelphia RR in 1835 was the third rail tunnel ever built in the US. It's also still in use. The tunnel cut through a hill in Phoenixville, PA and is now owned by Norfolk Southern as part of the Harrisburg line. Jim Lockart took the color slide.
