Griffith Historical RR Park |
Description: |
The Griffith Historical Park sits just north of the famous Griffith diamond where five railraod once intersected at one point - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern, Grand Trunk Western, Erie, Chesapeake & Ohio, and Michigan Central (NYC). The track in the forground is the newly installed connecting track from the former GTW (now CN) to the former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern (now also CN). The tower in the back of the cars is the former EJE interlocking that was moved across the tracks to its present location. The former GTW depot is out of sight to the left of the picture. |

EL T-197 |
Description: |
Erie Lackawanna transfer caboose shines after its 2015 summer paint job. Underneath lies former Elgin, Joliet and Eastern caboose #T-197. The Historical Society wanted to pay tribute to the EL service that passed through town so chose to repaint the former EJE in red. |
