Tom Beckett	General	The PGPI symbol is Philadelphia-Greenwich Yard to PIttsburgh-Conway Yard. The G's were used in both passenger and freight service during their long careers. The division was more noticeable after Amtrak startup in 1971, when PC conveyed a group of them to the new passenger carrier, retaining most of the balance for freight service. Thirteen(4872-4884) went to NJDOT for use on the North Jersey Coast trains to South Amboy, where they ran til 1983. Two of the passenger units got repainted in what now is a "heritage" scheme: Amtrak 4935, which got the Brunswick green and pinstripes, and NJT 4877, which got Tuscan red and pinstripes.	5/6/2020 4:39:19 AM

A line of Conrail GG1's
Beautiful action shot of four Conrail GG1's heading up a line of freight cars with CR #4867 taking the point. This was just a couple years before a lot of the GG1's were retired. Once the sleek symbol of Pennsy passenger speed, the GG1's later were relegated to freight duties. A note on the back of the photo by photographer D. Woodland states "Symbol freight PGPI. 10 am westbound."
