| Description: |
This former PRR American type locomotive was built by the Altoona shops has a "birth" date of 11/8/1905 (serial #1399). It had 68" drivers, 20.5"x26" cylinders and could generate 175 psi of boiler pressure. The tractive effort of this early locomotive was a limiting 23,900 lb as cars and trains got heavier. Taken by Laurence Bree Walker at the Strasburg Rail Road where it was restored, this locomotive served as tourist train power until moving across the street as a static display in the RR Museum of Pennyslvania in 1989 when it couldn't pass the FRA thickness standard without major rebuild. The day in 1960 is approximate. Can anyone tell me what the car is in front of the loco??? |

The loco went on to pull tourist trains at the Strasburg RR from 1965 to 1989. It even starred in two movies during its lifetime - "Broadway Limited" (1941) and "Hello Dolly" (1969) |
