CSS 101 & 8 - Chicago South Shore & South Bend |
Description: |
Beautiful sepia photo (left untouched) of two 1926 Pullman built interurban cars that was the backbone of the line before the newer Nippon Sharyo appeared in 1982. The orange cars, later crudely nicknamed "Crash-Rattle-Bang cars" as they neared the end of their service, were a familiar sight in northwest Indiana. L. Swanson photo |

CSS Interurban #35 & #101 - Chicago, South Shore & South Bend |
Description: |
To the right in this photo is Chicago, South Shore & South Bend interurban #35 built by Standard Steel in 1929. It was originally a 48 seat smoker. to the left partially in view is CSS interurban #101, built by Pullman in 1926 as a coach/baggage interurban car but later rebuilt to all passenger car. I scanned this image from the original negatives taken by Lawrence H. Boehning. |
