When Jim Lockart visited Steamtown USA in June of 1997, this loco proudly welcomed visitors to the Roundhouse display. Nelson Blount purchased the loco from a private owner in 1966. It is the only surviving loco from the Chicago Union Transfer Rwy and one of only nine surviving IC Consolidations. |

Far from home but a striking display is this Illinois Central 2-8-0 Mogul #790 at Steamtown USA entrance. Built by Alco-Cooke in November of 1903 as Chicago Union Transfer Rwy #100 (only surviving CUT loco), it was sold to the IC in 1904 and was renumbered IC 641. It was rebuilt in 1918 and renumbered IC 790 seen here. Upon retirement, the loco was sold to Nelson Blount in 1966. |
