Although the b&w photo doesn't show it, this beautiful 4-8-4 Northern built by Baldwin in August of 1942 had a blue & white color scheme with red lettering for the crack Meteor passenger service. Specs - serial #64438, class 4500, oil burner, 74" drivers, impressive 255 psi boiler pressure, 28x31" cylinders, engine weight of 474,040 lb, tractive effort of 71,188 lb. One of 25 4-8-4's built by Baldwin in 1943. The first 3 (4500-02) like this one were fitted with oil burners and painted blue and white with red letters proclaiming the duty as pulling the Meteor.
