Title:  IC 2-8-2 #1368 - Illlinois Central
Description:  Built by the Lima Locomotive Works in October of 1918, this 2-8-2 Mikado started out as Illinois Central #1880 (serial #5743). The IC shops rebuilt and renumbered the loco in September of 1942 to IC #1368. It continued in service until being sold for scrap in May of 1955. Rebuilt specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500, tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Description:  Sitting in the Proviso yard scrap line after is sale for scrap in May is this Lima built 2-8-2 Mikado awaiting the scrapper's torch. Built in September of 1923 as Illinois Central #1910, the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered it in April of 1938 to IC #1398. It continued to serve unti being sold for scrap in May of 1955. Rebuilt specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500, tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Description:  The Illinois Central 2-8-2 Mikado #1414 now sits in thescrap line at the Proviso Yard after its sale for scrap in May of 1955. Original built by Lima in October of 1923 as IC #1926 (serial #6518), it was rebuilt and renumbered by the IC shops in November of 1937 to IC #1414. After nearly 32 years of service, the loco was sold for scrap in May of 1955. Description:  Looking like a picked over carcass already, this Lima 2-8-2 Mikado sits forelornly in the Proviso Yards awaiting the final scrapper's torch. Built by Lima in October of 1923 as Illinois Central #1938, the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered it to IC #1426 in January of 1943. The loco was finally sold for scrap in May of 1955, 6 months before this picture was taken. Description:  Once a hardworking member of the Illinois Central roster, IC 2-8-2 #1502 sits in the scrap line now at the Proviso, IL, yard. Built by Lima in October of 1923 as IC #1939 (serial #6531), it served for nearly 33 years before being sold for scrap in February of 1956. Inbetween, the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered the loco in July of 1937 to IC #1417. It was renumbered again in January of 1951 to IC #1502. Description:  Nice example of a Lima 2-8-2 Mikado built for the IC in March of 1915. The loco served well and along the way was rebuilt and renumbered in October of 1941 as IC #1218. Later it was renumbered again to IC #1576. The loco was scrapped in 1956. Specs - 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine wt of 282,700 lb, tractive effort of 54,583 lb. Description:  Built by the Lima Locomotive Company in April of 1915, Illinois Central 2-8-2 Mikado #1732 was a solid addition to the hundreds of Mikados that IC had. In September of 1941, the loco was modified and renumbered to IC #1230. Having served the IC well for nearly 40 years, the loco met up with the scrapper's torch in 1955. Specs - 63" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 282,700 lb, tractive effort of 54,583 lb. The loco lasted a few years more before being sold for scrap in May of 1955.
