WP F7A #917 - Western Pacific |
Description: |
WP F7A #917D was built by EMD in January of 1950. The loco lasted well beyond its replacement time. Four Western Pacfiic F7A's were lucky survivors that received rebults. #917 was rebuilt in the WP's Stockton shops in 1977 and continued until retirement in 1981. It ended up at the Bay Area Electric Rwy Association. A trade in 2005 sent it to its current home of the Western Pacific RR Museum in Portolo, CA. This is a Bob gottier slide. No date or location was given but it appears to be the Stockton Yards after its rebuilt by the WP shops. |

WP F7A #918 - Weestern Pacific |
Description: |
The "official birthdate' of Western Paciific was 1/27/1950 when EMD completed the loco. The loco was renumbered just WP 918 with the "A" dropped as the letters in the original F7A numbering were not compatible with the new computerized WP records. Unfortunately, this loco suffered a damaging electrical fire in March of 1981 that retired it. It was brought back to life and moved to its new home at the Niles Canyon RR Museum. It became operational in 2005. Reuben S. Brouse slide |

WP 921D - Western Pacific |
Description: |
Caught by Robert Larson, it appears as if this retired WP unit is in service pulling the recent cars off a flat. According to the Western Pacific RR Museum, the home of this retired F7, it was one of the last units delivered to WP's first order of F7's in February of 1950. In 1977, it was sent to Morrison-Knudson in Boise, ID for rebuilding and repainted in the classic orange and silver Zephyr paint scheme. It and 3 other F7 units were used by WP for publicity. After the UP merger, #921-D was retired and donated to Fether River Rail Society and into the Western Pacific RR Museum. |
