Late it became Norfolk Franklin & Danville #203. Finally retired in November of 1980 (NI&M) Thanks to Butch Getz (see comment below) for deciphering the "NI&M" as Naparano Iron & Metal scrap dealers, a company that frequently handled scrapped locos, especially NKP. DWP Alco RS11 #3603 - Duluth, Winnipeg & Pacific |
Description: |
Built by Alco in August of 1956, this RS11 unit bounced between DWP and CV rosters. If this photo had been color, it would have shown the orange label on a dark green body color scheme similar to parent CN yellow on green. The units were built with low speed gearing 65 mph. The units were transferred in January of 1965 to Central Vermont and back in 1968 to DW&P. In 1977 10 units once again returned to CV and in 3/1983 the other 5. Originally built with lightweight trucks there were changed to standard type B heavyweight trucks and regeared to the standard 75 mph. No date, location or photographer given for the photo. |

This A1800 hp lco RS11 was built sometime in 1956-57 and was a class ARS18m. After being absorbed in the Penn Central, it would be renumbered as PC #7639. The date is approximate but with Warren Evans help, the date must be after 1966 when PRR used large numbers on the cabs.
