DH Baldwin RF-16A #1205 & 1216
Title:  DH Baldwin RF-16A #1205 & 1216
Description:  Interesting action shot of two Delware & Hudson RF-16A #1205 & 1216 "Sharks" on a brige. These two Baldwin "Sharks" were originally Monongahela Railway units that were to be scrapped but were saved when the Delaware and Hudson Railroad acquired both units from the scrap dealer in exchange for an equal value of scrap steel. They were used in freight service and in passenger excursion service on the D&H until April 1978. Unfortunately, not location, exact date or photographer was listed for the photo.

NYC RF-16A #1213 - New York Central
Title:  NYC RF-16A #1213 - New York Central
Description:  Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works as NYC 3813 in January of 1950, this was a 1,600-horsepower (1,200 kW) cab unit-type diesel locomotive built for freight service. All RF-16s were configured with a B-B wheel arrangement and ran on two AAR Type B two-axle road trucks, with all axles powered. The RF-16s came equipped with a retractable, nose-mounted drop coupler pilot. Eventually the unit along with several other sister units was sold to the Monongahela Railway in 1968 but by 1971 all but two were sold for scrap. No photographer listed for the photo.

NYC RF-16A #1216
Title:  NYC RF-16A #1216
Description:  Built by Baldwin in January of 1952, this locomotive earned the nickname "Sharknose" for its unusual nose design. The goal of the new style was partly to differentiate Baldwin locomotives from competitors, and partly to distance the new locomotives from early Baldwin diesels that were plagued with mechanical problems. The style was inspired by the Pennsylvania Railroad's T1 class duplex steam locomotive, some of which were built by Baldwin. The RF-16 was a successful locomotive. #1216 and 1205 have led an interesting life after NYC sold them for scrap in 1971 but were saved by Delaware & Hudson who used them for 6 years. D&H then sold them to Castolite Corporation to be leased on the Michiagn Northern Rwy in 1979. Eventually both suffered mechanical damage and supposedly stored in a remote Escanaba & Lake Superior RR building.

MGA RF-16A #1216 - Monongahela RR
Title:  MGA RF-16A #1216 - Monongahela RR
Description:  This "sharknose" loco was built by Baldwin in january of 1952 as NYC 381. Although a good perfomer, it bounced onto several other rr rosters like the Monongahela as their #1216. There is a rumor that this loco and another RF-16A are stored in a remote Escanaba & Lake Superior RR building. Michael A Tedesco took this color slide of the loco.

NYC 3820 - New York Central "Sharknose"
Title:  NYC 3820 - New York Central "Sharknose"
Description:  Nice photo by an unknown photographer of the "Sharknose" New York Central #3820. Built by Baldwin in January of 1952 (serial #75356), the distinctive "sharknose" design was to distance this model from previous Baldwins that had been plaqued by problems. The model proved to be a successful freight mover. Later this unit would be renumbered 1220 before being scrapped in the late 1960's.
