This loco was built by Baldwin in January of 1903 as a Vauclain compound 2-6-2 engine. It was rebuilt and simplified in November of 1918 at the ATSF Topeka Shops. After a long service record, it was donated to Dodge City, KS in 1954 as a static display for the Boot Hill Park. Jim Lockart took the photo in the summer of 1965 during one of his trips west. Rebuilt specs - 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 23.5x28" cylinders, engine wt of 235,200 lb and tractive effort of 38,150 lb. |

Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe 2-6-0 #1139 was built by Baldwin in January of 1903 as a Vauclain compound 2-6-2 Prairie type steam locomotive. In 1918, it was simplified during a rebuilt in the ATSF Topeka Shops. According to the Baldwin records, the loco also received a new boiler (#21617) around 1940. Like several ATSF steam locos, upon retirement in 1954 it was donated to Dodge City, KS as a display. Rebuilt specs - 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 23.5x28" cylinders, engine wt of 235,200 lb and tractive effort of 38,150 lb. This is a Jim Lockart slide. The date is based on the slide date stamp - probably taken in August or September of 1991. |
