Description:
Interesting cabless unit built by GE in September of 1982. The GE B30-7 diesel-electric locomotive model was offered first by GE in 1977, featuring a 16 cylinder motor. It is 61 ft 2 in (18.64 m) long. A change to the original B30-7 was using the 12 cylinder FDL rated at 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kilowatts), resulting in a B30-7A, B30-7A1 and a cabless B30-7A. Built by Lima-Hamilton in January of 1951, the switcher was orginally numbered 328. Later it was sold to Armco in 1967 and scrapped in 1976. Specs - 1,200 horsepower (890 kW) from a turbocharged Hamilton T-89-SA four-stroke, eight cylinder inline diesel engine, a Westinghouse generator and 4 Westinghouse traction motors provided the 74,508 lbf of tractive effort. Interesting Baltimore & Ohio doodlebug stopped at the Connversville station. Nice to see this doodlebug in my home state! With Jerry LaBoda's help (see comment below), this doodlebug was built by the Standard Steel Co in 1928 and was reporwered with 2 FM diesel engines in 1935. The doodblebug was retired in May of 1951.
